The NCA is an organisation which leads the UK’s fight to cut serious and organised crime. This includes class A drugs, child exploitation, people smuggling and human trafficking, major gun crime, fraud, cyber crime, money laundering and the corruption that organised criminals use to facilitate these crimes.
We work to imprison serious criminals, and use many other tactics to disrupt crime and keep people safe. In particular, we want to ensure crime doesn’t pay and that it’s harder to commit. We also draw on innovative new approaches to prevent crimes from happening in the first place.

Role profile: RP14337
Salary: The salary band for this position is £33,286 to £40,298. Where existing Civil Servants apply on transfer to the NCA at the equivalent grade, pay principles on Civil Service transfers will apply. All other salary offers will be made within the advertised band.
To manage resources to design and develop applications and tools to a professional standard and to meet user requirements that supports the NCA LI capability. To create and maintain robust systems to process, visualise and analyse intelligence, and maintain and provide 2nd/3rd line support for these applications. Represent NCA to discuss and agree technical standards and collaborate on joint projects. Working with the latest telecommunication technologies and experimenting to exploit intelligence from all sources available.
Successful candidates will be required to travel to other NCA sites on a regular basis and expected to form part of an on-call rota.

- Understanding/experience working with technical standards and translating these standards into working solutions.
- Exploiting information to solve operational problems
- In depth knowledge and experience of object orientated programming eg C# and Python
- In depth knowledge and experience of Relational Database design and manipulation
Essential at Entry (Please demonstrate how you meet this on your CV):
Degree (minimum 2.2) in Sciences, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (where software development played strongly in your degree) or 3 years + experience in a Software development role, or a HND, BTEC (or similar) in a STEM subject plus 2 years in an IT role.
Strong Object Oriented programming experience. C#, Python or Java
Understanding of the full software lifecycle
Understanding of IP protocols
Excellent problem solving skills
Must be capable of attaining DV
Desirable at Entry:
- Understanding of relational databases such as Mysql or Oracle
- Understanding of BIG data databases and data science
- Ability/desire to travel overseas at short notice for periods of up to 3 weeks
- The capacity to write operational/reactive code to cater for unexpected changes
