Job summary

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is a non-ministerial department of over 1600 people. We play a critical role in protecting public health and consumers’ wider interests in food across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

We are a small government department with a big mission: to keep food safe and ensure that it is what it says it is and is increasingly healthy and more sustainable.

We’re looking for a Food Hygiene Controls Manager who can play a big role in one of our largest endeavours to meet these ambitious goals. Our official controls work to protect food and animal feed produced in this country, ensuring it meets our high standards so that consumers can have confidence in what they are eating.

Much of this work is carried out by local authorities under FSA supervision - so it is vital that we can ensure the same level of scrutiny and protection from every local authority across the nation.

Job description

You will play a significant role in this, supporting both local authorities and the wider Regulatory Compliance Division by responding to queries about the delivery and implementation of food controls. Your extensive experience will ensure that you are a respected authority whose input has a tangible impact on our work.

As a talented collaborator and communicator, you’ll attend working groups and regional meetings to identify opportunities to further support and connect the teams carrying out our important frontline work across the country.

The wide ranges of challenges faced by local authorities mean this role is always interesting - an ever-evolving learning experience that requires the holder to work fast and juggle different priorities to ensure no query is left unanswered.
