Job description
The Communications Manager will work closely with the Head of Communications to deliver the CDEI comms strategy. You’ll flex your comms muscles across campaign planning, social media monitoring and management, press and PR enquiries, event organisation and supplier management. You’ll join a small but growing team of highly motivated individuals at the CDEI, working in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
You’ll develop an understanding of some of the most important and high profile issues facing UK society today, government and parliamentary process, and have an opportunity to build a network in this rapidly-growing policy area.
Responsibilities
Communications
- Planning and strategy for policy outputs: you’ll support the planning and management of publication moments
- Helping create communications toolkits for report publications: you’ll support the drafting of press releases, Q&As and help field enquiries from journalists when reports are released.
- Managing agencies: you’ll run the day to day relationship with suppliers (design, brand, printing) ensuring timings and budgets are well managed.
- Managing the CDEI social presence: engage actively with conversations online, monitor where the CDEI can contribute, and spot opportunities and risks through regular monitoring
- Internal communications: you’ll build relationships with internal CDEI teams, helping support the delivery of content in time for publication deadline
Events
- Conceptualise and Curate: help develop an ongoing programme of interactive events and high profile speakers.
- Organise: reporting to the Head of Communications and with the support of a Communications Officer, you’ll manage the logistics of these and other events - including promoting them across our public channels.
Person Specification
Good communication skills, verbal and written: you have the proven ability to write engaging copy for social media, contribute to robust press Q&As, and deliver clear briefs to design agencies.
Good organisational skills: you can create and manage clear timing plans across multiple teams within the CDEI, hold others to account, and respond to changing circumstances.
Demonstrated ability to drive projects: you’ll proactively move forward with your work, rather than waiting for a ready made to do list. You’ll listen to and incorporate feedback from different stakeholders, and move forward to the next stage with little prompting.
A keen sense of strategy: you have the ability to consider each policy output and develop tailored and creative communications plans to maximise the impact of a variety of publications, reports and activities. You’ll consider a range of low/no cost channels, and think about how to monitor the effectiveness of your strategy.
