Summary

The post-holder will work within Technical Operations, with Technical Systems, providing expert level third line Technical advice and support to all UKHO systems.

Job description

Within the Technical Systems team the post-holder will work with the Head of Technical Systems and Head of Technical Operations to manage the delivery of Technical Services to internal UKHO customers by supporting the UKHO infrastructure; servers, systems, communications and services in a third line role. Additionally, they will manage and co-ordinate their activities within the team, promoting best practice and ensuring that service targets are achieved.

The post holder will be part of a team providing 24/7 cover through an on-call rota and will be required to provide on-call cover outside normal working hours in accordance with the rota.

Key Skills/Experience (Please note that we will only score against the sift and interview criteria and not the essential and desirable information below)
Essential:
• Strong communications skills and the ability to present to all staff at the appropriate level
• Expert technical experience of wide variety of Server, Storage and Networking technologies at a 3rd Line Support level.
• Knowledge of IT security best practice, with particular emphasis on MOD standards and accreditation process.
• Expert experience of Microsoft Windows Servers 2016, 2019, Microsoft Hyper-V and other Server and infrastructure technologies in a large enterprise environment, either holding appropriate qualifications or working toward them.
• Experience in Microsoft Azure cloud technologies both IaaS and PaaS concepts and configuration.
• Experience with Microsoft Office 365 technologies including Azure active directory.
• Experience with troubleshooting enterprice applications across a diverse range of technologies.
Desirable:
• Have experience of leadership in a technical/support team environment). Experience of directing others to undertake tasks.
• Familiar with business continuity concepts such as the methods and techniques for risk management, business impact analysis, countermeasures and contingency arrangements relating to the serious disruption of IT services.
• Awareness of AWS Cloud Technologies
• Experience of Linux Operating Systems and other open source technologies
• Experience of Powershell scripting or other automation technologies
• Experience with Fortinet products

Things you need to know
• This role is open to full time, part time, job share. The UKHO will consider flexible working or workplace adjustments, where appropriate.
• Security – successful candidates must pass a disclosure and barring security check and gain a Security Clearance and or a Developed Vettign Clearance
• This position is a permanent position non-reserved post which is open to full time, part time and job share candidates. The role will be contractually based at our Head Office in Taunton. We are working remotely at present but envisage a hybrid working model post pandemic whereby you will be able to balance your work location between working remotely and in the office, You must be able to travel to the office as and when required.

Pay
External applicants:
New Entrants to the Civil Service will be expected to join at the salary minimum of the grade for which they applied. If an applicant at the offer stage wishes to negotiate higher starting pay, they will be required to submit a case with supporting evidence; UKHO will consider the case against several factors, including our total reward and benefits offering, the difficulty of recruiting the role and scarcity of skills. Internal Staff
Those who are successful for a level graded role will retain their current salary.
Those who are successful for a higher graded role will have their promotion salary calculated.
