About the job


Our Business Delivery & Transformation team is looking for an IS Assurance Officer to support in establishing and implementing the IS Assurance Framework across our retail banking operations. You will also help us assure IT projects are delivered according to NS&I policies and standards and develop meaningful service management metrics for dissemination across NS&I. We consider these a key part to achieving our goal of providing cost-effective financing for government.

Job description

To support the IS Assurance Manager in implementing the IS Assurance Framework across the NS&I estate, with a particular emphasis on managing the risk and audit aspects for ongoing and new changes to the Retail bank. To assure that IT projects are delivered according to NS&I policies and standards, so that they deliver the stated objectives and benefits. To work with partners to develop meaningful service management metrics for dissemination across the NS&I, ensuring these are baked in from the start of work on changes, and support service management best practices. To develop NS&I reporting mechanisms to disseminate the derived metrics across NS&I. To manage the IS Assurance gateway process for changes, and promote its development with key stakeholders To contribute to the management of the IS Risk and IS Audit processes which are designed to complement NS&I’s IS Assurance Framework To contribute towards management of the external and internal audits across the entity, ensuring agreed actions are discharged on schedule.


• To Interface between IS Assurance, NS&I change management, the internal teams in NS&I and Service Delivery teams/technical teams within ATOS
• Ensure the operational environment continues to meet IS Assurance standards once transitioned into BAU.
• Ensure that requirements are consistent with the IS Strategy and output based i.e. are not solutions
• Risk assesses all new initiatives and changes from an assurance perspective
• To work with the outsource provider to developing reporting mechanisms that demonstrate appropriate management of the operational Infrastructure.

Technical skills

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in IS delivery.
  • Experience in management of delivery/technical teams.
  • Experience in the use of Data Analysis and/or Data Management tools
  • Experience of working in Agile and other Digital delivery methodologies, including the use of APIs and other integration technologies.
  • Experience of working in or with outsourcing organisations from a client or service provider.
  • Extensive Knowledge and experience of IT Service Management best practices including SLA development and Service Reporting within an outsourced environment.
  • A good understanding of IT Audit & Risk Management.

This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours, Experience and Technical skills.

If shortlisted you will be invited to attend a 1 hour panel interview via video call on MS Teams.

The interview questions will focus on 5 selected success profiles behaviours and the following 2 technical criteria:

• Extensive Knowledge and experience of IT Service Management best practices including SLA development and Service Reporting within an outsourced environment.
• A good understanding of IT Audit & Risk Management.

Interviews will take place in the week commencing 7th January 2022

A reserve list may be held for a period of 12 months from which further appointments can be made.

If you are applying for a role at the same NS&I band as you are currently and the advertised salary is lower than your current salary, if you are successful and accept the role you will need to accept the role at the advertised salary, which would involve your current salary being reduced to the advertised amount.

Note to existing permanent employees at NS&I - Please be aware that if you are a permanent employee appointed to a fixed term role, our recruiting principles ensure you will retain your permanent status at the end of this contract. However, you are not guaranteed to return to your original role. At the conclusion of this fixed term period, you may be redeployed to another suitable role at NS&I, offered retraining or will be given priority mover status to find another role in the civil service.

NS&I employees on a fixed term contract moving to another fixed term role, will continue to be employed for a fixed term to the end date of this role. You may apply for suitable roles within NS&I or the civil service.
