Job summary

Reporting to the NS&I Financial Reporting Manager, the role of Finance Assistant is part of the wider NS&I finance function.  We are a small, collaborative team at the heart of NS&I working to support the delivery of NS&I’s strategic and operational objectives, whilst ensuring the principles of financial governance in the public sector are upheld.

The role will support the delivery of a high quality, professional Finance function within NS&I by providing effective and efficient support to the team.  The role will ensure our suppliers are paid within Government prompt payments targets and promote a strong financial compliance culture within the organisation.

Person specification

Essential experience

  • Experience of working in a finance team and understanding of key financial control frameworks.

Essential skills

  • Good numerical skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy when inputting data

Essential technical knowledge

  • IT skills with proficiency in Excel and word

Qualifications

Maths GCSE (or equivalent) 9-4 / A-C

In your application you will be asked to provide the following 

  • An outline of your career history and qualifications with your key responsibilities and achievements.
  • A 250 personal statement on the key essential experience
    • Experience of working in a finance team and understanding of key financial control frameworks.
  • A 250 statement for the 2 selected behaviours at sift. Please use examples from your experience and knowledge to demonstrate how you meet them addressing the essential criteria in the Person Specification. We would recommend using the STAR method.

In the event we receive a large number of applicants, applications will be sifted first on the personal statement on the key experience. Those who demonstrate the minimal acceptable level of experience will then qualify for the full sift. 

If shortlisted, you will be invited to attend a 45 minute panel interview via video call.

The interview questions will focus on each of the selected behaviours and the technical skill – “IT skills with proficiency in Excel and Word”

Interviews will take place on the week commencing 11th November 2024.

A reserve list may be held for a period of 12 months from which further appointments can be made.

Working for NS&I

NS&I is currently working in a hybrid way with colleagues expected to work in the office for 40% of their working month and this will be increasing to 60% of their working month in the summer of 2024.  If you are applying to work in London, the role is currently based in Sanctuary Buildings, Great Smith Street, SW1P 3BT and in summer 2024 it is anticipated that NS&I will be moving out of Sanctuary Buildings and into another office within central London.

Any move to NS&I from another employer will mean you can no longer access childcare vouchers. This includes moves between government departments.
