We’re looking for an outstanding Lead Test Engineer, who wants to contribute to demanding and exciting digital services for the UK Government.

As a Lead Test Engineer you will lead teams who will build and assure applications used by DWP staff and claimants.
You will be part of a multi-functional agile delivery team and be an integral part of shaping and delivering automated test solutions that enable the department to deliver quality services consistently that meet the needs of our agents and claimants.
The successful candidate will be expected to Lead engineers as well as collaborate with others, actively seek input from colleagues and value a multidisciplinary team over hierarchy.
Job description
As a Lead Test Engineer you will define and implement the strategy for build automation test solutions that help to assure the quality of products that make up DWPs digital services providing leadership, guidance and technical expertise to the test engineering teams.
You will ensure that best practices are in place, and drive improvements by sharing knowledge and resources across teams.
You will have experience in building automated test solutions and be very familiar with industry standard automated testing tools.
You will work alongside other lead test engineers as well as both software and dev-ops engineers within the teams around you and the wider community to deliver consistent solutions and strategies.

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.
Salary Information
Salary for this role is from £66,860 (Band min) to £74,392 (Band max).
Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.
Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the next grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.

Stage 1: Application

• Experience leading the strategic to day-to-day direction of functional and non-functional testing across multiple teams in an agile environment.
• Knowledge of a programming language and experience with automated testing across UI and API’s with associated tools.
• Experience of test engineering principle and knowledge of Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, microservices and associated methodologies and tools.
• Experience engaging, and communicating with multiple stakeholders on risks, issues and opportunities.
• Experience building and supporting an environment where people are empowered, feel safe to challenge, share knowledge, and innovate.
• Experience growing Test Engineers capability by leading, recruiting, retaining, and developing people.

Stage 2: Interview
If you’re successful at sift stage you will be invited to a video interview via Microsoft Teams. There, you will be assessed against the experiences listed in the essential criteria.
You will be asked to do a short (5 -10 minutes) presentation on a specific topic. Further details will be provided to candidates invited to interview.
Interviews will take place Late February/Early March. Sift and interview dates to be confirmed.

A reserve list may be held for a period of 6 months from which further appointments can be made.
Reserve list candidates will be posted in merit order by location.
You must meet the security requirements before you can be appointed. The level of security needed is security check.
For meaningful checks to be carried out individuals you will need to have lived in the UK for a sufficient period of time, to enable appropriate checks to be carried out and produce a result which provides the required level of assurance. Whilst a lack of UK residency in itself is not necessarily a bar to a security clearance, and expectation of UK residency may range from 3 to 5 years.
