Person specification

Essential skills and experience

●    In-depth knowledge of API design principles (RESTful APIs, OpenAPI etc.), data mapping techniques, and integration best practices.
●    Experience with various integration tools and technologies (e.g., API gateways, message brokers, ETL tools).
●    Understanding of data security principles and practices to ensure secure data exchange through APIs.
●    Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies (Agile, Waterfall etc.).
●    Experience with various programming languages and technologies relevant to the financial industry (e.g., Java, Python, cloud platforms etc.).
●    Practiced leadership and mentoring skills to inspire and guide technical teams.
●    Effective analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex technical issues.
●    Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
●    Effective time management skills to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.


Essential technical knowledge

●    Working experience in architect/designer/SME with exposure to Banking and/or Payment’s areas
●    Understanding of various integration methodologies (API-led, event-driven etc.) and experience working with cross-functional teams (development, operations, security).
●    Experience using data mapping techniques and tools.
●    Exposure in large scale transformation programmes in at least one of the following: core banking transformation, digital transformation, or business transformation.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, with relevant post qualification experience in IT integration or a related role and a proven track record of successfully implementing API integration.

In your application you will be asked to provide the following  

  • An outline of your career history and qualifications with your key responsibilities and achievements.
  • A 500 statement of suitability on the key essential experience

    • Experience with various integration tools and technologies (e.g., API gateways, message brokers, ETL tools).
    • Understanding of data security principles and practices to ensure secure data exchange through APIs.
  • A 250 statement for the 2 selected behaviours at sift. Please use examples from your experience and knowledge to demonstrate how you meet them addressing the essential criteria in the Person Specification. 

In the event we receive a large number of applicants, applications will be sifted first on the statement of suitability on the key experience. Those who demonstrate the minimal acceptable level of experience will then qualify for the full sift. 

If shortlisted you will be invited to attend a 1 hour panel interview via video call. 

For the interview you will be asked to prepare a 10 minute presentation aimed at demonstrating 

  • In-depth knowledge of API design principles (RESTful APIs, OpenAPI etc.), data mapping techniques, and integration best practices.

The interview questions will look at the behaviours Delivering at Pace, Working Together,  Communicating & Influencing and two technical skills “Understanding of various integration methodologies (API-led, event-driven etc.) and experience working with cross-functional teams (development, operations, security)” & “Exposure in large scale transformation programmes in at least one of the following: core banking transformation, digital transformation, or business transformation.”

Interviews will take place on 14th & 15th November 2024.

Working for NS&I

NS&I is currently working in a hybrid way with colleagues expected to work in the office for 40% of their working month and this will be increasing to 60% of their working month in the summer of 2024.  If you are applying to work in London, the role is currently based in Sanctuary Buildings, Great Smith Street, SW1P 3BT and in summer 2024 it is anticipated that NS&I will be moving out of Sanctuary Buildings and into another office within central London.

Any move to NS&I from another employer will mean you can no longer access childcare vouchers. This includes moves between government departments.
