Job description

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has an extraordinarily wide remit for such a relatively small government department. Protecting food and ensuring that it is safe, what it says it is, and increasingly healthy and sustainable, the FSAís work touches the lives of everyone in the country.

Weíre looking for a Policy Manager to join the Regulatory Policy team in Wales, working to progress policies and legislations that protect and inform the British public about their food, whilst seeking to involve the needs of Welsh stakeholders in centralised government decisions.

Policy managers are at the very heart of this team, working across the FSA as well as both the Welsh Government and a range of centralised government departments to progress food legislation on behalf of Welsh Ministers. There are so many areas that the Regulatory Policy team touches upon, and you will find yourself liaising with think tanks, academics and researchers, industry figures, as well as numerous other stakeholders in the Welsh food systems.

As well as progressing legislation and ensuring that Welsh interests are given appropriate consideration in the FSAís policy development, you will work to support the team in a wide variety of areas, including toxicology risk management and the international promotion of the UKís high food safety standards.

This is a fascinating and varied role that will offer you the opportunity to build your understanding of policy development whilst offering existing expertise in a way that has a lasting impact on public wellbeing.

The successful candidate will be a strong communicator, who is able to work alongside and influence people from across both government and the industry itself. They will understand the importance of the FSA, and why we always put the consumersí interests first - but will also be keen to ensure Welsh interests are part of the equation as well. This is an opportunity to bring about both national and local change, and you will be keen to work hard towards that, looking at the organisation around you and always asking yourself how we can better our approach. If you are eager to make a tangible impact on the food on the nationís tables and are keen to work closely with the rest of our team to do so, then we cannot wait to hear from you.

Mae gwaith y tÓm Polisi Rheoleiddio yn cyffwrdd ‚ chynifer o feysydd, a byddwch yn cyd-weithio ‚ melinau trafod, academyddion ac ymchwilwyr, a ffigurauír diwydiant, yn ogystal ‚ nifer o randdeiliaid eraill o fewn systemau bwyd Cymru.
