The Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship Scheme is a 3 to 4 year development programme within the Corporate Services Group (CSG) function focused around business roles across different areas of DE&S.
You’ll rotate through several placements within DE&S and you may also have opportunities to work in other business roles supporting the MoD’s vast estate and front-line commands.
Your hands on experience will be underpinned by DE&S specific training as well as study towards a BSc (Hons) degree in Management and Business. You’ll also have the option to be assessed for Chartered Manager status.
Once you’ve completed the Level 4 and Level 5 of the Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship, you’ll be eligible for a re-grade interview and potential transfer to a permanent contract while allowing you to continue with your Level 6 Apprenticeship. You’ll then have the option to be placed into an appropriate role within the CSG function.
Your training will initially be online with our training provider, this may change over time.
Your duty station will be MoD Abbey Wood, Bristol, BS34 8JH and you will be required to attend site regularly as required by your placement and / or your scheme.
Because of the classification of some of the information related to certain projects, some work-based placements may be open to Sole UK Nationals only.
You’ll be involved in the following:
- Providing an administrative support service to specialist colleagues within the business and actively contributing to team meetings to help with the work of the team.
- Building and maintaining a network of internal business contacts and peers to share and gain knowledge and identify opportunities to learn and develop.
- Undertaking business support placement activities to develop your knowledge and experience and add value to your team and the business.
- Building awareness and understanding of how the CSG function and wider business operates to assist in own develop and career progression.
- Participating in assigned educational training to develop own capabilities in a defence context.

• Five full GCSEs A*-C or grades 4-9 (or equivalent) including English Language and Maths.
• Two full A-Levels at grades A*-C (or equivalent).
Relevant experience, demonstrating business management skills, including through internships or placements would be desirable.

Sift – February 2023
We will check that you meet any essential or eligibility criteria listed in this advert. Your CV will be assessed using a simple numerical scoring system.
Assessment Centre – March 2023
The top scoring candidates will be invited to an assessment centre in Bristol. We will assess you through team exercises, an interview, and a presentation, aligned to our Behaviours above.
Provisional Offer – April 2023
Once all interviews have taken place, we will make provisional offers to the successful candidates and begin your pre-employment checks. Please be aware these checks can take several months to complete, however we will remain in contact throughout the process.
Following successful completion of all pre-employment checks you can expect to receive a formal offer and contract at least 1 month before the scheme start date in November 2023.
Feedback will only be provided if you attend an interview or assessment.
