We are looking for multiple enthusiastic DevOps Cloud Infrastructure Engineers.

As a DevOps Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, you will be part of a team-oriented environment building next generation cloud native infrastructure using technologies such as Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes.

You will be working on some of the largest and most exciting transformational digital programmes currently in the UK. These projects will impact every aspect of our society and every corner of the country.

You will be responsible for CI/CD pipelines and DevOps toolchains and strive to put automation at the heart of everything you do.

You will craft and implement solutions that are highly available, resilient, scalable, extensible, and maintainable within multiple cloud environments.

You will be working in a highly agile environment with a focus on iterative, test-driven methods.

You will contribute to the overall DevOps process in line with product strategy and the wider community in conjunction with the Head of Engineering Strategy, Head of DevOps, and Head of Site Reliability Engineering.

Job description

As a DevOps Cloud Infrastructure Engineer you will take charge of the infrastructure, continuous integration, and continuous delivery pipelines for your products. You will work with peers to set the strategies, standards, measures and benchmarks, for products in the wider DevOps community.

You will be working with senior stakeholders and developers to deliver on a combination of AWS, Azure, GCP, and our on-prem platform, with a focus on enabling the true hybrid cloud.

With a keen eye for detail, using your cloud native expertise you’ll ensure products are measurably and demonstrably robust, resilient, fault tolerant, and self-healing.

You will provide support and technical leadership to peers and more junior colleagues, including apprentices.

You will be accountable for the code and services your team’s produce, ensuring they’re continuously refactored and evergreened for optimal performance.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include but are not restricted to, the following:

• Lead a DevOps Engineering team providing support, technical leadership and guidance, creating a DevOps culture and implementing automation best practices.

• Provide advice and guidance to others in the organisation.

• Have responsibility for large blocks of work, for employees in varied disciplines and with a wide span of leadership, breaking down user stories into tasks.

• Design and manage the tactics for building reusable libraries, templates and services, and own the development of medium-long term strategies for product lines.

• Help set the strategic direction for DevOps teams and wider engineering community.

• Lead the sharing of knowledge, documentation and good practice with the wider Engineering community.

• Provide advice and suggesting courses of action, provide coaching, mentoring and support to your team and other Software and DevOps Engineer colleagues and peers.

• Communicate and collaborate with wide variety of external bodies and organisations on a local, regional, national or international basis, leading community discussions about DevOps best practice within Engineering.


ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

The ideal candidate for this role will be able to demonstrate the following essential criteria:


• Experience of providing technical leadership and support within a team of DevOps Engineers.

• Significant experience of Linux Operating Systems.

• Significant experience of infrastructure-as-code across cloud providers using Terraform.

• Significant experience of configuration-as-code across cloud and on-premise environments using Ansible.

• Significant experience of Version Controls systems (Git and GitLab CI).

• Significant experience of working in an agile environment building, deploying, supporting, and operating cloud applications (in particular AWS and Azure).

• Significant experience of containers and containerised workloads e.g. orchestration services such as Kubernetes and ISTIO.

Salary Information

London: Salary for this role is from £54,067 (Band min) to £64,656 (Band max)
National: Salary for this role is from £49,171 (Band min) to £59,589 (Band max).

In National locations, where the maximum salary of £59,589 is offered, a Digital Allowance of up to £2,594 per annum is available for exceptional candidates, based on our assessment of your skills and experience.

Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview. Applications will be posted in merit by location.

Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.

Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the next grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.

This role can be based out of either London, Blackpool, Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds or Sheffield corporate hub locations. Successful applications will be appointed in merit by location.
