Job summary

We are currently looking for a Business Development Partner to join our Clinical Practice Research Datalink team in the Safety and Surveillance group.

This is a full-time opportunity, on a 12-month fixed term contract basis. The role will be based in 10 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf London, E14 4PU. Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas. We are currently implementing a flexible, hybrid way of working, with a minimum of 4 days per month working on site to enable the collaboration and contact with partners and stakeholders needed to deliver MHRA business. Attendance on site is driven by business needs so depending on the nature of the role, this can flex up to 8 days a month, with the remainder of time worked either remotely or in the office. Some roles will need to be on site more regularly.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research.  
The new Safety and Surveillance Group brings together into a single integrated structure devices and medicines safety expertise with enforcement capabilities. These functions will be supported by our data and evidence generating capabilities complementing our signal generating capabilities produced via the new Safety Connect System.

Part of the Safety and Surveillance group, The Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD), jointly sponsored by the Agency and the National Institute for Health Care Research (NIHR), is the UK’s preeminent research service providing access to anonymised NHS data for research. In addition to supporting high quality observational research, CPRD has developed world leading services based on using real world data to support clinical trials and interventional studies.

Job description

What’s the role? 

This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the UK Government’s premier data-driven research service. 
The Business Development Partner is responsible for promoting uptake of CPRD products and services amongst academic, Government, charity and commercial organisations worldwide and managing CPRD’s customer engagement activities.
Role responsibilities include investigating market opportunities for CPRD’s novel products and services; growing CPRD’s customer base across commercial and non-commercial organisations in the UK and internationally; managing CPRD’s existing client accounts; engaging with potential and existing clients and stakeholders to convey CPRD’s unique real world data research assets and services; managing CPRD’s business development operations; delivering business development projects in line with CPRD strategic objectives and contributing to wider business improvements   

The post holder will have a track record of successfully promoting research products and services to academic or commercial markets, possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and be adept at proactively managing a diverse portfolio of client accounts and business development projects.    

Key responsibilities: 

•    Identify opportunities to market CPRD products and services.
•    Promote uptake of CPRD data assets and services.
•    Manage customer relations and lead and support delivery of strategic projects.
•    Manage business development operations and people management.

Person specification

Who are we looking for? 

Our successful candidate will: 

•    Have a health or Life Sciences Degree. Post graduate business or marketing qualification desirable or equivalent experience.
•    Have good project management skills, experience with CRM systems, proficient at managing competing demands and concurrent activities, effectively delivering a portfolio of projects and activities on time and to target.
•    Have hands-on research experience in an academic, government, not for profit or industry setting. Familiarity working within an epidemiological, clinical trials or real-world data environment is desirable.
•    Have experience of leading business development and/or stakeholder engagement within the life science or health research sectors.  
•    Have a good understanding of clinical research and UK and global health research environment, including market opportunities for prompting CPRD products and services.

Alongside your salary of Ł56,353, Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency contributes Ł15,215 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Find out what benefits a Civil Service Pension provides.
