Our Integrated Logistics (iLog) function is responsible for the development, management and delivery of new and/or in-service support. The iLog function has professionals whose expertise includes: service delivery management; Integrated Logistic support (ILS), supply chain management; transport/movement; storekeeping/warehouse operations.

We have an exciting opportunity to play a significant role at our site in West Moors as the Petroleum Laboratory and Training Manager in the Defence Petroleum Depot of the Logistic Delivery Operating Centre. With direct responsibility to the Depot Manager, you will provide the interface for the daily routine between the Depot Manager and the team by enabling the efficient and effective operational capability of the team and ensures tasking activities are met.

In adopting this post, you will utilise your skills as a highly effective communicator to provide both classroom and field based instruction to military personnel to enable them, when on deployment, to effectively undertake the duties of their respective posts.

In your daily duties, you will assist the Depot Manager in delivering the daily routine of the Lab and Tank Farm team and the response to priority tasks. As part of this, you will act on behalf of the Depot Manager in co-ordinating and delivering all matters in the area of quality surveillance, assurance and associated training.

You will assist the Depot Manager in the production of briefs and the preparation of documents, and additionally you will be responsible for the implementation and review of Operating Instructions and Standing Operating Procedures for the team’s area of responsibility.

Utilising your stakeholder management skills, you will Interact with Operational Managers and Technical Managers as necessary, and act on behalf of the Depot Manager in all matters related to the delivery of Petroleum Laboratory Technician training.

You will also have additional management responsibilities. You will display leadership by example and act as Delivery Manager for the personnel in the Bulk Fuel team and manage the implementation of Health & Safety policy on a day to day basis within the team area of responsibility. You will have responsibility for the career management and development of your team as a Functional Development Officer. The post includes the requirement to be part of the Duty Officer role responding to out of hours activities on a rotational basis.

To be considered for this role, it is essential that you have experience in a managerial position. You will have gained experience relevant to the role of laboratory analysis and in the use of applicable test standards and interpretation of results. You will be required to develop the Lab to reflect future capability requirements of Logistic Delivery Operating Centre.

You will have a bachelor's degree in Chemical Sciences or an equivalent qualification, or a membership of an organisation such as the MRSC (Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry).

It is highly likely that you will have a background in the analysis of fuels, oils and lubricants.

It would be considered highly desirable if you are able to demonstrate a project management qualification (APM or similar).

Starting pay may differ depending on qualifications, experience and specific role requirements (external candidates only). The Civil Service cannot offer a salary higher than the one advertised.

For internal candidates (DE&S and SDA only), if you are successful for a role at your current level, then your basic salary will not change. If you are currently at a level lower than the role advertised and found successful then your salary will increase to the higher of 85% of the top of the advertised range or a 10% increase in your current base pay.
