Summary

We have an amazing opportunity for Data Engineer Apprentices to start an exciting career in data and technology and become a key part of one of the biggest and high-profile digital transformation programmes in the world.

Putting the user at the centre of everything we do, our Data Engineers collect, organise and provision data to provide business insight. Working on a variety of projects, you will provide technical data solutions to a range of stakeholders and customers.

As a Data Engineer Apprentice you will study towards the Level 4 Data Analyst apprenticeship and combine your job and hands-on experience with virtual learning delivered by our partner provider, QA. This will include one-to-one with tutors and mentors, tutorials, and research projects.

Working with appropriate technologies as a Data Engineer apprentice, you’ll gain the technical expertise to take your career in an exciting new direction. By the end of the apprenticeship you will have achieved an industry-standard qualification and have the skills to progress your career in line with your aspirations.

This is an exciting opportunity to earn as you learn and get hands on practice of data gathering and analysis, while studying towards a Level 4 Data Analyst qualification. You’ll develop crucial skills, knowledge and behaviours for your career and be part of a great team delivering digital applications and services.

You will undergo an initial boot camp to learn and discover a wide variety of skills, you will then be deployed to work within out teams and apply those skills learnt to real life business challenges. You’ll be supported by your line manager, skills coach and the data community, as well as fellow apprentices on the programme, so you will have plenty of sources of encouragement to help you succeed.

There’s a lot to learn and do, so you need to be ready to be proactive, work hard and participate in the many opportunities you’ll be given to showcase your skills.

To be eligible for the apprenticeship you are required to hold the following minimum eligibility criteria:

  • Hold a valid passport/birth certificate or residence permit.
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK.
  • Must have lived in the UK and/or EEA for 3 years prior to apprenticeship start date.
  • Not be in full-time education or be undertaking another apprenticeship by the apprenticeship start date.
  • You must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level in a similar subject. – we reserve the right to withdraw applications who are deemed ineligible due to existing qualifications.
  • You must hold GCSEs in Maths and English at Grade C or above or complete functional skills tests at the beginning of the apprenticeship programme.

Salary Information

Salary for this role is £28,117.

Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview.

Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.

Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the next grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours, Experience and Technical skills.

Stage 1: Application

Your application will consist of three parts:

Stage 2: Interview

If you’re successful at sift stage you will be invited to a video interview via Microsoft Teams. There, you will be assessed against the following Behaviours and Technical Skills:

Technical Skill
• Knowledge of Technology and Software- show an aptitude for learning new technologies and their use. Is aware of digital technology and develop an understanding of what it involves and its impact.
