Job summary

Detention Services (DS) is part of Immigration Enforcement (IE) and supports compliance across the immigration system through the detention and removal of individuals who no longer have the right to remain in the UK, and for whom other enforcement approaches have been unsuccessful. DS is responsible for running the immigration detention estate, which comprises of several Immigration Removal Centres (IRCs). We have a responsibility to ensure that men and women in detention are held securely, safely and are treated with dignity and respect.
Job description
You will be responsible for management of the Intelligence and Counter Terrorism function and supporting the wider security team.
As senior manager, you will contribute and implement functions and objectives as defined in the Detention Services Security Team (DSST) and wider Detention Services (DS) business plans.
Line management responsibilities are attached to this role, you will directly line manage one higher executive officer and countersign for three executive officers.
You will be an experienced leader, able to motivate staff and stakeholders, and be confident in dealing with a variety of people.
Key Responsibilities:
• Being accountable for the performance of the function and the staff within it. Providing leadership and carrying out all aspects of people management.
• Overseeing the introduction and administration of a single estate wide intelligence system.
• Ensuring senior leaders have an accurate picture of risk within the detention estate. Manage estate wide intelligence collation and creation of reports to senior leaders, including the implementation of a quarterly National Threat Assessment.
• Ensuring the departments delivers against its responsibilities under Counter Terrorism policies and Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA).
• Building and maintaining relationships with internal and external partners ensuring intelligence information is disseminated as required.
• Working collaboratively with suppliers to ensure intelligence is processed appropriately through the oversight of second line assurance activities.

Essential criteria
• Knowledge of working in an Intelligence environment.
• A good working knowledge of Counter Terrorism and its functions.
• Experience in custodial and/or enforcement environments.
• A proven track record of line management, with ability to inspire others.
• Being a confident and clear communicator with a range of stakeholders both internal and external.
• A self-starter with a track record of working proactively with minimal supervision.
• Evidence and use of utilising sensitive and covert techniques to gather intelligence.

2. Sift – week commencing 17th February 2025
The sift will be held on the CV, behaviour - Leadership and the Personal Statement.
Should a high volume of applications be received, the sift will be conducted only on the Personal Statement.
The Personal Statement will be scored for all candidates. Those candidates who achieve the minimum pass score for the Personal Statement will progress to a further sift where the CV and Behaviour will be scored. These candidates will receive a sift score for all elements. Candidates who fail to meet the minimum pass score for the Personal Statement will not have their Behaviour and CV scored and will only receive a sift score for the Personal Statement.
3. Interview – week commencing 10th March 2025
If you are successful at sift stage, you will be invited to an interview that will be Behaviours (as listed in the job advert) and Strength-based questions.
