Here at Defence Primary Healthcare Scotland and Northern Ireland (DPHC(SNI)), we are inclusive and dedicated, working to provide excellent care to our entitled personnel!

We are looking for an Practice Nurse (Primary Healthcare) to join our welcoming team of dedicated military and civilian healthcare professionals and administrative staff located at the Leuchars Medical Centre, St. Andrews. 

The position offers 37.5 hours per week. The salary will be pro rata where the part time hours are undertaken and applications for part time or job share to cover these hours are welcome.

In additional to the advertised salary, this post attracts a locational allowance of £3000 (pro-rata for part time).

Job description

The successful candidate will be the focal point for Primary Healthcare (PHC) nursing issues with their area of practice. They will undertake a range of nursing assessments, working independently and provide appropriate care/treatment in conjunction with General Practitioners (GPs) and other medical staff. Care will be appropriate to need and in accordance with Ministry of Defence (MOD) and DPHC policy. The Practice Nurse will strive to improve standards and be involved in determining the practice population needs. These will be focused on patient experience and best practice. The Practice Nurse will have training and clinical supervision responsibility for junior members of the multidisciplinary team. They will be involved with communication with outside agencies to provide a range of clinical and management services to the Medical Centre population at risk (PAR). The Practice Nurse will adhere to the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct at all times.

Person specification

Duties and responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to:

  • Prioritising health problems and intervening appropriately in order to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations.
  • Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating treatment programs that promote health and wellbeing.
  • Conducting and supporting health promotion activities as dictated by Line Management.
  • Ensuring infection control policy is implemented and maintained within the facility
  • Acting as Health Promotion Lead for Leuchars Medical Centre

Qualifications

Must be in date for Basic Life Support (BLS), Anaphylaxis, Automated External Defibrillation (AED), Infection Prevention and Control (IPC),
Safeguarding Level 3 (Children and Adult - depending on population at risk) or willingness to undertake training.

Memberships

Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the NMC Register
Current registration with the NMC.
