Job summary

In DHSC, we are proud of our purpose – to enable everyone to live more independent, healthier lives for longer. To achieve this, and create a great place to work, we have four values: we are inclusive, we constantly improve, we challenge, and we are agile. If this sounds like an environment you’d like to work in, we’d love to hear from you.

The Commercial Directorate is a strategic and enabling function that supports all DHSC’s commercial interactions with third parties and supporting ministers in delivering their agenda. Our mission is to ensure that health and care policy is implemented at best value for the taxpayer.

We do this by leading and overseeing the department’s direct commercial activity, implementing commercial policies across DHSC and its arm length bodies, and acting as advisors to the Secretary of State. Our vision is to provide a world-class commercial service to enable the health and care system to deliver for the public – we aim to be the best in government commercial for technical expertise and customer focus.

This role sits in our Commercial Operations team, responsible for category management of all of the department’s direct spend across the full commercial lifecycle.

Job description

We are looking for a minimum of four experienced Commercial professionals to come and join the Commercial Operations team. As a Commercial Manager, you will be the lead on a range of procurement and contract management activities. You will work directly with the Department’s policy experts to ensure that commercial solutions are put in place to meet their objectives and use the Department’s e-commercial system (Atamis) to help you to manage your portfolio of contracts and keep on top of your procurement pipeline.

Throughout the commercial lifecycle, the role will involve:

Procurement:

  • Management of full procurement process using e-procurement system.

  • Supporting Operational Contract Managers and working in tandem with them to drive delivery and value.
  • Supplier relationship management and more general supplier engagement.

As this is a senior commercial role, you will be primarily responsible for the procurement and contract management of the department’s more complex and strategic contracts. You will be managed by a Commercial Lead and work as part of small team within Commercial Operations as a whole.

This is a team that supports your personal development, and we will be pulling together a personal development plan that will ensure you are given the support to achieve in your new role.
