Job summary

Working in a team with the Head of Legal Regeneration and Commercial, the Senior Solicitor (Commercial) will play a critical role in helping to deliver Homes England’s objectives by handling its commercial contracts. You will be joining our small, friendly and approachable team who are committed to providing first class legal advice to Homes England.

Job description

Key responsibilities of the role include:

- Preparing bespoke and standard form contractual documents, including framework call off agreements and IT contracts;

- Providing advice on contractual issues such as remedies for breach of contract, termination and variation, and mitigation strategies to manage risk;

- Deputising when required for the Head of Legal Regeneration and Commercial; and

- Managing and prioritising a high volume caseload, including those of a complex nature, efficiently and professionally.

This is a rare chance to be part of a fast growing, national organisation with real social purpose. Working with key stakeholders and a professional legal team you will ensure efficient, consistent and effective resolution of commercial law issues.

Person specification

As well as being able to draw on substantial legal experience in commercial contracts you’ll need real energy, be highly motivated and able to demonstrate your ability to work and succeed in an ever-changing and fast-paced environment. You will be curious, adaptable, unfazed by ambiguity, and have strong intellectual and analytical skills.

Whilst the role will primarily focus on commercial contracts, an understanding of (or willingness to learn) public procurement law and other public sector regulatory regimes would be advantageous.

Delivering on a mission as bold as ours isn’t always easy. You will need to be resilient and comfortable managing stakeholders at a senior level and your discussions will always be shaped by a good understanding of the commercial and operational impact of what we do as a legal team. You will enjoy working in an innovative, fun and engaging way and be able to negotiate and persuade.

As an experienced Legal professional you’ll understand how to manage colleagues and be able to demonstrate you can work with others as part of a team in a collaborative, inclusive way.
