Job description
Ad hoc research
Assist the Market and Competitor Intelligence Manager and partner with key stakeholders across the business by:
- Conducting research on market activity and benchmarking NS&I against competitors’. This will cover areas which include; product portfolio analysis, customer experience and brand satisfaction intelligence, digital initiatives and marketing activities.
- Alerting internal stakeholders about market and competitor activities that impact the business.
- Collating data from various sources in order to build a full picture of NS&I’s external markets.
Interpretation & Analysis
- Accurately calculate market trends, evaluating the impact these have on NS&I and the wider market.
- Continuously monitor the evolving digital landscape within financial service sector and evaluate the impact they have on NS&I.
- Source accurate competitor intelligence data to establish best in class practices; benchmarking against NS&I to support the business strategy.
NS&I Committee Representation
Assisting the Market and Competitor Intelligence Manager with:
- Researching, evaluating and interpreting market intelligence data tailored for committees to help influence NS&I’s strategic decisions.
- Producing monthly committee packs and when required deputising in committees.
Scheduled Reporting
- Responsible for the production of scheduled reports, tailored to stakeholders specifications.
- Provide clear concise executive summaries – help drive out ‘insight to action’ for the business to inform strategic decision making.
- Partner with stakeholders and look to continuously improve reporting outputs by seeking regular feedback on the suitability of these in line with their evolving needs.
Continuous improvement
- Support the team’s continuous improvement programmes by driving efficiencies in team processes and deliverables for stakeholders.
Person specification
Essential experience
- Strong analytical experience including exposure to data mining, data gathering and data analysing
- The ability to evaluate data and identify trends to assess the impacts and implications for NS&I against competitor activity and the external market
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly put across information both written and verbally
- Strong presentation skills with a track record of presenting to senior audiences
- Experience in working under pressure, managing multiple projects for stakeholders
- Strong experience working with, and managing relationships with insight agencies
Essential technical knowledge and skills
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to conduct analysis and present statistical data using Tableau
- Good presentation skills and interpersonal skills
- Excellent report writing skills
- Strong numerical background and demonstrate attention to detail with accurate data analysis

A reserve list may be held for a period of 12 months from which further appointments can be made.
Working for NS&I
NS&I is currently working in a hybrid way with colleagues expected to work in the office for 40% of their working month and this will be increasing to 60% of their working month in the summer of 2024. If you are applying to work in London, the role is currently based in Sanctuary Buildings, Great Smith Street, SW1P 3BT and in summer 2024 it is anticipated that NS&I will be moving out of Sanctuary Buildings and into another office within central London.
Any move to NS&I from another employer will mean you can no longer access childcare vouchers. This includes moves between government departments. Note to existing permanent employees at NS&I - Please be aware that if you are a permanent employee appointed to a fixed term role, our recruiting principles ensure you will retain your permanent status at the end of this contract. However, you are not guaranteed to return to your original role. At the conclusion of this fixed term period, you may be redeployed to another suitable role at NS&I, offered retraining or will be given priority mover status to find another role in the civil service.
NS&I employees on a fixed term contract moving to another fixed term role, will continue to be employed for a fixed term to the end date of this role. You may apply for suitable roles within NS&I or the civil service.
