  • I am at least 18 years old at the time of application.

  • I hold a full manual UK Driving Licence.
  • I will need to undertake and pass a medical assessment if successful.

We are looking to recruit Immigration Officers to join our frontline Immigration Compliance and Enforcement (ICE) team based in Plas Eirias Business Centre, Colwyn Bay, Conwy, North Wales. This office covers the police force areas of North Wales.

This team forms part of a wider ICE Wales team that includes offices in Cardiff & Swansea and is part of the ICE North command. Occasional ad hoc travel will be required with potential overnight stays to support teams across Wales & West of England.

You will become part of a team where the opportunity to learn and develop is a continuous process. You will develop a strong team ethic that will allow you to support your colleagues and achieve the overall objectives of the department.

You will be working as part of a team of officers looking to detect and apprehend persons unlawfully present in the UK in line with relevant legislation.

Your initial training/mentoring may require travel and overnight stays to locations across South Wales. This training will be for a period of up to 12 months.  

Please note, if successful, you must be prepared to undergo Aviation Custodial Training.

Please also note that, due to the location of the office and the requirement to drive official vehicles, you must hold a full valid UK manual driving licence.

We are looking for people who:

•    Are flexible, adaptive and creative in solving problems and dealing with change.

•    Are committed to making Immigration Enforcement a great place to work.

•    Are physically fit, which will be confirmed by a medical assessment.

•    Are willing to become PST 3 arrest trained and to be refreshed annually within official timescales.

•    Are willing to undertake mandatory Aviation Custodial Training as an integral part of the role. 

If Professionalising Investigations Programme (PIP) trained; you will form part of the team that looks to take on, develop and lead PIP Level 1 criminal investigations, alongside standard Immigration Enforcement duties. 

These include:

•    Entry in breach of deportation orders.

•    Identity document offences.

•    Assaulting an Immigration Officer.

•    Failure to comply with documentation process.

•    Illegal working offences.

If not already PIP (L1) trained, there may be future opportunities to gain this qualification, alongside the core Immigration Enforcement role.

Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

•    Arresting and detaining immigration offenders.

•    Protecting and safeguarding of the vulnerable.

•    Searching property and persons including collecting, preserving and recording evidence.

•    Attending police stations to deal with suspected immigration offenders.

•    Gathering intelligence.

•    Engaging with communities and partner agencies across government.

•    Completing risk assessments.

•    Preparing operational orders and leading the team as Officer in Charge (OIC).

•    Directing officers whilst on an enforcement visit.

•    Conducting thorough briefings and de-briefings for enforcement visits.

•    Driving official vehicles.

•    Attending police stations to detain people reporting and transport to immigration removal centres.

•    Serving enforcement papers on immigration offenders.

•    Writing reports and input data onto internal systems and handheld devices.

•    Obtaining and executing warrants.

•    Seizing proceeds of crime.

•    Serving civil penalties.

•    If PIP trained, leading on criminal prosecutions which includes, investigating/gathering evidence, arresting, interviewing, file building and attending Court.

Please note that due to the nature of the role, and the shift working requirement, these positions are offered on a full time basis only.

Annual Hours Working Allowance

We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. This role currently attracts Annualised Hours Allowance of 34.36%. This is to compensate for working shift patterns including night shifts, early morning starts, late night finishes, weekends, and public holidays. Shifts can vary in length and can be up to 12 hours. Shifts can be changed or extended according to business need. The rate payable is dependent on location and role and is indicative of the shift pattern you will be required to work.

The higher the AHA, the more flexible you will be required to be. Please note that the allowance is subject to regular review and can go down as well as up.

Age: These are shift working roles and so you must be at least 18 years or over to apply for this role. You will be required to work between 22.00 and 06.00, so this is a legal requirement. Appearance

As part of this role you will be required to wear a uniform (which will be provided). Staff must ensure that their uniform is worn correctly, in line with these uniform standards, is kept clean and is well presented. To support this requirement, adequate uniform supplies will be available and issued. Uniformed staff represent their organisation at all times and should ensure that their dress and personal appearance reflects this responsibility.

Training and Development

Public and Personal Safety Training [PPST] – Level 3

These roles can be physically demanding and if successful you will be required to complete and pass specialist training including Personal Safety Training [PPST] which develops skills in personal safety, arrest, and restraint techniques. This demands physical activity and physical contact with delegates on the course. You will be required to complete a PPST health declaration and, if necessary, attend a medical examination. A formal offer will be conditional upon you being physically fit to undertake and pass the training.

You must be prepared to undertake regular refreshers of this.

Flexible working is not an option

This role is not suitable for a combination of office and home-based working due to the requirements of the role. Successful candidates will be required to attend the office/other work location as specified in the advert at all times, to carry out this role.
